Shin Chul draws inspiration from the traditional potters of the Joseon period, with a particular focus on creating moon jars. Since 2005, Shin has produced over 1,000 moon jars, each one meticulously crafted with an intensity and dedication that has become his trademark. Born in Wonju, Gangwon, Shin's journey into ceramics began in high school when he discovered a pottery wheel during an art class. After years of rigorous study and hands-on experience, Shin opened his own studio in 1989 at the age of 28, where he worked tirelessly for nearly three decades before moving to the Ceramic Arts Village in Icheon. His commitment to his craft led him to become a respected educator, teaching ceramics at Chungkang College for 15 years. Shin’s work, particularly his moon jars, is celebrated for its deep connection to tradition, as well as the relentless pursuit of perfection in technique.
